Welcome back to Tie-lopnik, where I tie my tie a certain way and then tell you about it! So far, we have covered:

The Shelby-

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Four-in-Hand-

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Trinity Knot-

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

And today, we have everyone's favorite knot, the Double Windsor. Seriously, if ties had publicists, Double Windsor's would be the best, because everybody knows this knot. I'm not a fan of this knot, and very rarely wear it. In any case, the well tied Double is not overly firm, triangular with a wide top and a narrow base, and almost perfectly symmetrical. The go-to knot for CEOs and upper management, the large, triangular, symmetrical Double Windsor exudes confidence. It's a power knot that says "I'll make partner before you" or "I often sleep with my secretary".

Double Windsor:

Advantages: Confident, large, powerful, symmetrical, triangular, it says "I make more money than you"

Disadvantages: (too) Large, it says "I make more money than you", really overused, far too common.

Well, I suppose, since I'm being a copycat all week....I'll stick to what I know.

But, it is stripe-friendly, as you promised.

I am feeling a little bad one of my employees told me I smell like a brewery just now. Maybe I should have worn a tie :)

I aim to please. This is also a pretty easy knot to tie so give it a try if you're feeling adventurous.

I too have gotten in to neckties and intriguing knots for them. I just ordered a couple of two-piece high contrast ties from edietty.com, and will try to inform y'all of how that goes. They'd been out of stock for quite a while until a couple weeks ago, when I put my order in (I'm expecting a long period for delivery, so I'm not panicking yet.) I'm also thinking about picking up some high contrast ties from Yibei Ties. They're a lot cheaper than the edietty ties, but they're one-piece ties.

It's what I wear 9/10 days.

I've liked that Shelby though. I'm torn.

This is the best one so far. You probably know why I think so...

Oh I got you. Yeah the reason why I rarely wear doubles is because I always just substitute the Shelby. I like it much more.

Kinja'd!!!

I have this tie

Did you get it from a wedding? Possibly as a gift from the groom?

It's grown on me this week. Look at you, influencing my tie tying habits from...umm...somewhere between 2 and 2000 miles away.

Yup, same tie. Was just wondering because he's a fellow Oppo, shipped in some people for the wedding from all over the place, and didn't know if I missed another opportunity for the Awkward Oppo Handshake™

So what's the difference between this and the Shelby? Is it just the dimple?

Kinja'd!!! macanamera > nermal
10/02/2014 at 10:24

Kinja'd!!!1

They are tied differently. Either can be had with or without a dimple. The Shelby is more compact, shorter, and has a slightly wider base. The Shelby also has a relatively flat front compared to the double.

Alright then, assuming you're on the VA side. You're in the next state. So, a few hundred miles.
